The Scotsman Law & Legal Affairs

The Scotsman is delighted to be the media partner for the Scottish Legal Awards for a fifth successive year. The newspaper is committed to providing the very best coverage of Scotland’s legal community and has enjoyed a long standing position as the nation’s leading legal paper. To complement the extensive coverage given to legal matters in the news section of our paper, dedicated weekly law pages are edited by Assistant Editor David Lee. Each Monday, this platform addresses the debates at the heart of the legal profession.

Big names from the profession often contribute to the pages, including Lord McCluskey, one of our four regular columnists. Jennifer Veitch, a highly-respected freelance writer, keeps the profession posted on the latest developments on all the important issues - and interviews the big names that matter. The hugely-experienced Law Correspondent, John Robertson, keeps us up to speed on the news from the courts, as well as all the gossip in Court Shorts.

The Legal Forum allows lawyers to write about a matter of current interest, while Legal Update is the only comprehensive weekly news digest of major contracts, new appointments and big events in Scotland.

The Scotsman has also launched Law Alert, a free e-mail service allowing legal professionals to find out about the main issues appearing on the law pages in advance. If you want to sign up, simply send an e-mail to law@scotsman.com using the word ALERT in the subject line.

The Scotsman will provide unrivalled coverage of the Scottish Legal Awards 2008 - beginning with a preview of the Balvenie Live Legal Debates, to be held in Edinburgh and Glasgow in September and running all the way through to the awards ceremony itself next February.

David Lee, who has built up close links with Scotland’s legal community, joins the judging panel again this year. He will be involved in vigorous debate as the tough task of selecting deserving winners begins anew.

The Scotsman looks forward to another healthy contest, which again serves to highlight our nation’s legal excellence.
