The Cuthbert Scottish Legal Awards 2008, sponsored by Bank of Scotland Corporate, has launched with six new judges, two new categories and a campaign to raise £10,000 for Children 1st, the nation's leading charity for childrens' welfare.
The programme will present 15 awards and promises to be one of the best events ever staged for the Scottish legal industry.
The new categories in the programme are The Academy Choice Award for Elite Firm of The Year which will be drawn from a poll of over 100 of Scotland's business leaders. The programme also introduces an award for Private Client teams. The Balvenie Private Client Team of the Year is created to recognise the growing band of legal professionals advising the growing niche market of families and estates.
The new judges joining the programme in 2008 are:
- Geraldine Gammell, Chief Executive of the Princes Trust Scotland
- Robert Pirrie, Chief Executive of the WS Society
- Professor Tom Mullen, Head of Law, Glasgow University
- Michael Lugton, Chief Executive of The Scottish Law Commission
- Valerie Stacey QC, Vice-Dean, Faculty of Advocates
- Alastair Northrop, Editor, Scottish Business Insider
The judges join existing panellists John Campbell QC; Dr Andrew
Cubie; Tom Wood; David Lee, Assistant Editor of The Scotsman; John Ferguson,
Director of Development, Scottish Council for Voluntary Organisations; Andrew
Sturgess, Senior Partner, PricewaterhouseCoopers and Chairman of Institute of
Directors, Scotland.
Margo MacDonald MSP will chair the panel for a sixth consecutive year.
